Rewrite technical text in plain English
When something written by and for specialists has to make sense to a reader outside the field.
Updated
Rewrite the text below for [Reader], who will read it to [Their goal].
- Replace jargon with everyday words. Where a technical term has to stay, explain it briefly the first time.
- Use short sentences and the active voice.
- Keep every fact accurate. Don't simplify anything into something untrue; if a point can't be made simpler without losing accuracy, keep it and explain it.
- Keep it about the same length, or shorter.
After the rewrite, list the terms you replaced or explained, each with its plain version.
